A glance at OBOD's offseason plans (aka, Welcome to the dead zone!)

(Before we begin: I know I told you guys I’d be back late last week. But I was busier than expected and, frankly, a tad burned out after writing all that draft stuff. I needed to re-charge a bit. I have done that and am now good to go. Thanks for your patience.)

The most dreadful time of the year to be an NFL fan is officially upon us.

Yep – we’ve hit the dead zone, a nearly three-month long stretch where, literally, not much happens. There are a couple of minicamps and, okay, some news comes out of those and we’ll be sure to have it for you when it does. But other than that, we’re all sort of watching the days go by until training camp starts (first practice is July 31!).

The Green Bay Packers held their rookie minicamp this past weekend, for example, but we won’t be talking about that here. Frankly, I find those things to be completely pointless for fans, as the coaches always say the exact same things:

“(Insert player’s name here) looked great and showed many of the things that led us to draft him. But he’s also got a lot to work on.”

Seriously – that’s all they ever say.

So, instead of droning on and on about that, we’ll use this space to talk about the next few months at OBOD. Because, you know, we kind of like talking about ourselves, if you hadn’t noticed.

(Have I mentioned we have a Twitter page? Seriously, more of you need to look for us there. Seriously.)

For the next few months, unless any real news happens, we’ll mainly be working on special series. We did this for the dead zone period last year, too, and people seemed to like it (except for that whole “12 greatest players in team history” controversy). We think – or, at least, we hope – the series we’ll be doing this year are even better.

(And if you have any ideas for things you’d like us to write about for the dead zone period, feel free to post them as a comment or e-mail them to us at olbagofdonuts@gmail.com.)

Like last year, these series will obviously focus on the Packers, but not necessarily on the current players. There will be some of that – Adam’s working on a really cool idea as we speak and our “training camp battles” series will return in early July – but a lot of it will have a historical tilt to it.

If none of this makes sense, don’t worry because it will soon enough. Just know that we’re going to turn it loose and have some real fun here over the next three months.

Because, really, isn’t having fun what being a Packers fan is all about?
