Pat Lee is always healthy at this time of year. He's only played 5 games out of 33. Still don't know what we have with him.
We are relying on 3 DB's that finished last year on IR. Blackmon's ACL, and Harris' ACL another tendon, and something calld the band. As well as a second surgery. He'll be lucky to come back at all. It also seems that Underwood needs to grow up. The same as the coaching staff was concerned with last year. When you start to count on rookies to be the "key piece", in the secondary, well that might not be good.

Ringberg said "NOTHING has changed from our defensive backfield that got torched against good quarterbacks last year."
au contraire---Pat Lee is healthy. Underwood should be improved. (It's said a player makes the biggest leap between year one and two). I also haven't written off Josh Bell. Plus the ball hawking Morgan Burnett may play dime back lessening the burden placed on the CB's.

Papa Bear -- I agree SOMEWHAT with Scott. Harris may never be the same, but that DOESN'T mean he can't continue to be very very good when he returns. As far as pass rushers go, I think between Jones & Matthews we'll keep enough pressure on most quarterbacks.. BUT - that being said, it seems to me like Scott is right about one giant, glaring issue that NOBODY seems to properly address and I think maybe you or Somers should do a piece on -- NOTHING has changed from our defensive backfield that got torched against good quarterbacks last year. We can talk all we want about how good Charles Woodson and Nick Collins are, and how good Morgan Burnett is looking, and about how Harris should be good when he comes back and how our depth at linebacker should provide enough coverage ability across the middle of the field... but the fact remains that our pass coverage didn't get any better from last year so HOW is that not a huge gaping hole in this team right now (rathr than the "some questions in the secondary" as you put it). I'd like to see a piece about what SPECIFICALLY needs to happen so this is not an issue this year and I think it needs to come in the form of the scheming because our personell for pass coverage is essentially the same or even a bit more shaky. I'm not saying we can't remedy this problem; I just don't know what the answer is and would love to see OBOD acknowledge this problem and maybe have you, Stomz, & Gene pontificate on potential ways to solve it. Just think it would make a good article. Thanks for letting me rant, keep up the good work.

Chris, you watch the same games as I do. Outside of drafting Burnett, do you really think the DB's are better than last year? What happened last year? Oh yeah I forgot, we got killed by every great QB we faced.
I believe the Packers have the very best offense in the NFL. I believe we also have the best QB. But I also watched as we tried to outscore teams we couldn't even get close to stopping. Until they can do that it won't change.
I also believe that Special Teams are very important. It would be nice to have a professional Punter on the team. As well as a coach who can get them to tackle someone on returrns.
By the way, we have a MUCH tougher schedule this year.

Chris,
Dude, you have me fired up for the season to start! Great article! I'm so glad that training camp is finally upon us.

Scott - I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Mr. Harris come back as good as ever. The man has the will & determination to overcome that knee injury. (Go ahead - bet against him!)

Go Pack go!

I wouldn't get too excited about Bulaga yet. The rap on him is that speed rushers give him a very hard time. In the NFL, there are maybe 1 or 2 quick pass rushers. Harris will NEVER be the same. Lee has played 5 games in two years, still a rookie. Blackmon has had one healthy year. We still have only 1 legit pass rusher.
They had better take advantage of the first 6 weeks in the schedule.

Sounds about right to me. And you make such a good point about the offensive line -- I love how, a few months removed from the season, everyone forgot the sea-change in protection after the Dallas game.
